The Philosophy of Blogger Spam

The thing about the specific spam sent to blogs as comments is that it is necessary to generate some sort of comment. So I am all the time receiving odd philosophical bits. Like:
There are, as is known, insects that die in the moment of fertilization. So it is with all joy: life’s highest, most splendid moment of enjoyment is accompanied by death.

Of course the rest of the sentence is an exhortation to buy a male enhancement medication. Go figure.

Blogging is Spamalicious

Sorry if you’ve been looking through comments and have had your eyeballs wounded by spam attacks. I’ve had to add more words to my spamwatch keyword folder.

Happy Ostara!

Wow, I’ve been doing this blog for a whole click of the wheel. It’s a lovely wet day here in New York and New Jersey and I’m happy to greet the spring.

This weekend we consecrated our first planting—sugar peas—and put them into the ground. We colored eggs, consecrated and ate them.

We also got into a conversation about the correct pronunciation of Ostara. Most of the people I know, including myself, pronounce it oh-STAR-uh. However, it’s related to Ishtar, Ashtoreth, Esther, and Easter, all of which emphasize the first syllable. So, perhaps, Bill says, it’s OH-stara.

Updates to the site

You know, the thing about creating a website is, for the most part, you create the site and forget about it. I try to be very conscientious about updating the Events page, about posting any news about my books, keeping reviews current, and once in a while I even remember to add new books (or new to me) to the Recommended Reading page.

But some things you sort of leave alone. I mean, I add workshops, and sometimes I drop old ones I’m tired of, but why would I re-read a workshop description?

As it turns out, it’s good to re-read it if it references a “forthcoming” book that’s been out for eight months now. Boy is my face red.

So, some updates, some fixer-uppers. Like that.

Witchin’ Hour

Yesterday I taped an interview for The Witchin’ Hour, a local cable-access Wiccan show in Connecticut. We discussed The Way of Four, using elements in your life, finding balance, self-knowledge, all sorts of good stuff. It was fun (if exhausting). I’m not sure when the segment will air.

Write to the folks at The Witchin’ Hour for air dates as well as to find out how to get the show on in your local area. It’s surprisingly easy to arrange. I understand the show is coming to New York City quite soon.
