I have been following the news, rumors, gossip, corroborated rumors, bizarre speculation, and fanboy fantasies on the issue of Who Will Be the Next James Bond for months. Months. The producers refused to speak while the mainstream media and Internet went batshit crazy with wild speculation.

Daniel Craig? Daniel Frickin CRAIG??
Visitors and Traveling
So, that was a weekend. Barbara came to visit, which would have been huge fun, except she wasn’t feeling well, so it was only fun. And she dyed Arthur’s hair red. Not, y’know, human red, but actual red as in a color chart. Fire engine red. Cherry red. Maybelline’s new lip color red. So that’s my son.
Meanwhile, countdown begins for Festival of Souls in Memphis. I fly down Friday morning, October 28, and return home on Samhain itself, Monday evening. Should be a fun time. Be there!
Serenity is a damn fine movie
I really did love it. In some ways, I loved the series better; grittier, slower to spring its surprises on you, more inclined to sit back and laugh over a meal than to have a big ol’ science fiction space chase. Nonetheless, damn fine movie and I’ll see it again (probably wait for the DVD for that, but I will see it again). See it, you won’t be disappointed. Rich, complex characters, big shiny adventure, interesting moral dimensions, scary stuff, funny stuff, and a bit of sex.
Arthur got sick. Arthur never gets sick and there he is with a big bad sore throat and a cough and intermittently a fever on opening weekend. How much did that suck? But I restrained my urge to go alone and we had a lovely evening of it tonight. No school tomorrow, so a movie and a leisurely dinner during which I enjoyed the pleasures of Sam Adams Octoberfest beer.
Damn, and I don’t get paid for ANY of these plugs!
Fixed the front page
My What is Wicca? page mysteriously disappeared from my website. I blame myself. ::hangs head in shame:: I fixed it.
Waiting for the Shiny Movie
So, yeah. I got really hooked on Firefly. My friend (kisses to Ken) gave me the DVD set of the series which had been mangled and abused by the Evil Pencil Pushers™ at Fox. Outstanding stuff. Really. Best science fiction since Star Trek. Rough-edged, witty, space guys-meet-Old West-meet-pirates-meet-Joss Whedon, boy genius. Just too good.
The movie follow-up, Serenity, opens wide Friday. See it. Reviews are coming in pretty darn strong.
Why should I be advertising this thing when I don’t get a dime out of it? Well first, just to spread the word, share the candy, all that. Second, because I am SO EXCITED about seeing it. Finally, because I want it to succeed so well that “sequel” is the watchword around Universal.
Just in case you’re wondering
I am not one of the bloggers getting free tickets to Serenity.
Oh. Well.
Pagan Pride Day
I attended Eastern Massachusetts Pagan Pride this weekend. It was a busy weekend for me, I visited family on Saturday in Western Mass., then drove across the state for the event. It was great seeing my uncle & aunt; I really must do that more often.
The Pagan Pride event was very nice. I had a fine time, saw old friends, met lots of people, sold some books, and did a talk on The Way of Four which went well, despite the threat of rain. Lovely people and all that. Sorry I had to leave before main ritual, but it’s 230 miles. What I could hear as we left sounded enticing.
New Orleans Pagan Relief Auction
E-Witch is currently sponsoring a Pagan Author’s Auction for New Orleans relief funds. I am probably not explaining this well, so follow the link.
Basically, a bunch of us authors have donated items for auction. 100% of proceeds are going to be donated. Not all items are put up at once; the auction and fund-raising, like the need, will be on-going.
Please visit the auction and see what goodies you can get for being generous!
Katrina ate my brain
Yeah, I haven’t posted an entry in a while. I’ve been following Katrina news very closely. First I was worried sick about my friends, who got out safe. Then I was horrified. There’s no need for me to reiterate important news here. My favorite blog, which provides solid information as well as some rants, is Daily Kos.
Anyway, I’m still paying close attention to the news but here I am, posting away.
Who Will Be the Next James Bond?
That’s the question on everyone’s lips. A year ago, the leading contenders were Hugh Jackman and Clive Owen. Everyone in Bond fandom was sure it would be one of them, although outside the fannish arena, speculation was more wide-ranging. Here’s a sample.
Now Owen is scheduled to be filming a movie at the same time that Casino Royale will film, and Hugh Jackman has been quoted in the media as saying he’s turned down the role (although these particular media stories are from “unnamed sources”). The rumor mill churned a few weeks ago with the news of Daniel Craig and Julian McMahon as the leading contenders, both wildly inappropriate. Both are now out of the running according to “unnamed sources.”
At that point, I still thought Ioan Gruffudd was the horse to back, but things have changed.
The “final four” supposedly being auditioned and mulled over are
Goran Visnjic
Henry Cavill
Alex O’Lachlan
Ewan Stewart
These are, frankly, insane choices, except perhaps for O’Lachlan.
So who will be Bond? I haven’t a frickin clue.
