Personality Types

I work for a large corporation that uses a proprietary personality analysis tool called Communicalysis™ for diversity and communication training. Today my department was trained in this tool.

The tool strongly resembles the Myers-Brigg Type Indicator® test, which I discuss at some length in The Way of Four. Both tests, and numerous others, are based on the theories of Carl Jung, who in turn based his personality type analysis on his occult understanding of the four elements.

So full circle. It always seems to come back to Air, Fire, Water, and Earth. It costs you $100 or more to take one of these tests. You should really just read my book. 🙂

The value of Traditional Wicca

This came up as a result of something I posted on Mystic Wicks.

Eclectic Wicca is an outgrowth of Traditional Wicca, meaning “BTW” trads such as Gardnerianism, Alexandrianism, etc. A lot of Traditionalists believe that they have sole and exclusive rights to the word, that if you practice in an eclectic, non-initiatory manner, you’re not a Wiccan. Well, THAT linguistic horse is WAY out of the barn and frankly, the thing to do is to hold the barn door open in a cheerful manner as if we wanted the horse to get out all along.

There is nothing wrong with being an Eclectic Wiccan, it’s a totally legitimate path from which a lot of people get a great deal of value. But if you really want to learn about the meat and potatoes of Wicca, the stuff that underlies the pretty rituals and herbs, then you need to read books published by Traditionalists, or that are 15 or more years old and come from a point of view that Traditionalism is the standard. These books simply have more information.

Of course, keep in mind that these books ALSO have misinformation about things like the etymology of the word Wicca and the true history of the “Burning Times.” That’s just something that comes hand in hand with the fact that the books are older.

Again, I’m not saying anyone should be oriented towards Traditional practice. I’m saying that learning about Traditionalism will enhance anyone’s practice. Try checking out my Recommended Reading page to get you started.

I’m easy and I have a car…

Have you noticed how incredibly available I am? Do you want me lecturing, teaching, or signing books (with an unmistable flourish) in your home town? I can travel just about anywhere within 100 miles of NYC, and perhaps further. If you want buckets of information, Llewellyn can send you a press kit. Really, they love doing it! And I understand the press kit is rather good looking, too.

In an 8 week period this past fall, I visited Albany, Boston, Manhattan, and Long Island, and did a local talk as well. Don’t you feel left out? Aren’t you saying to yourself, “But why isn’t Deborah in MY town?” Cuz you didn’t ask, silly.

Really, ask me.

I’m back

I’ve been in a business training for 3 days, and hardly near a computer at all. Today I found out that my step-aunt died last night. Judy Lambert was a brave and good woman, fighting lung cancer, kidney disease, and a host of complications that would have made most of us despair. But she was cheerful and adventursome, and I am saddened by her departure. She’ll be missed.

Spam. Gotta hate it.

So I come home tonight and not that my day started all that well because I was going to get a new tattoo in a ritual setting but the artist got a very bad flu but ANYWAY…

So I come home tonight and every single post in the blog has a spam “comment” about Texas Hold ’em poker.

So moderation is back on. If the blog gets really active I’ll reconsider but for now it isn’t hurting anyone. If you register and I know you I can turn moderation off on an individual basis.

How cool is that?

I’m still learning this blog thingie. (Is that spelled correctly or is it “thingy?”) Lookit the calendar in the left-side bar. You can click on any day and it will go to that day’s post. You can hover over that day and it will tell you the latest title posted that day.

This is just all so slick.

New Witch #9 (Spring)

Look for an article by me on the sane use of the Internet. A topic that all of us could learn from!

Groundhog’s Day

I’ve been Pagan for over twenty years, and no one has ever given me a clear, cogent explanation of the relationship between Groundhog’s Day and Brigid’s Day. I mean, they’re the same day, but other than that. Because after all, groundhogs are native to North America, and Brigid, not so much. Well, finally it occured to me that it’s just a simple seasonal weather predictor, like “Red sky at night, sailor’s delight.” Sunny day (i.e. visible shadows) on Brigid means a normal winter, cloudy day on Brigid means an early spring. I don’t need a groundhog to tell me that it’s sunny out right now. Oh well.

For the record, Punxsatawney Phil agrees with my prediction, and Staten Island Chuck does not. So maybe it’s cloudy over on Staten Island.

The Way of Four Spellbook

The contracts arrived for The Way of Four Spellbook today from Llewellyn. Natalie Harter is the Acquisitions Editor I work with. She’s a terrific person. I gave her a hard time about how loooong it takes Llewellyn to put a book in print: publication is scheduled for April 2006. But she took my tweaking with good humor and I am glad to have the book under contract.
