Tuesday Trivia: Sex

Since I reviewed a sexually-explicit movie yesterday, today’s quiz is about sex.

1. She says she’s not good at sex, but they try anyway. Unfortunately, they each get a phone call and have to leave.
Solved by Roberta (comment #2).

2. Making love while discussing the etymology of “honeymoon.”
Solved by George (comment #25).

3. Provoked to lose her virginity on a bet, she and the young man meet in the middle of a lake.
Solved by Melville (comment #1).

4. They meet and marry in the same day, barely making it to City Hall before it closes. The next morning, they glow with the sweetness of their first night together, but he must leave.
Solved by Roberta (comment #10) and Hazel (comment #11).

5. After they make love for the first time, she teases him about his suit, and he finds a penny in the pocket.
Solved by Pax/Geoffrey Stewart (comment #29).

6. Waiting at her daughter’s sub-leased apartment, she discovers a large supply of dildoes belonging to the leaseholder, and begins exploring her own sexuality.
Solved by Karen D (comment #26).

7. While making love, she pulls a knife in a threatening manner, and then uses it to slice a piece of fruit for them to share.
Hint: One of the top-grossing movies of its year, which is hmmm…between 1995–2006.
Solved by George (comment #38).

  1. Melville says:

    #3 – Little Darlings?

  2. Roberta says:

    1 is the Big Easy.
3 of course I knew, too late.
    7 is damn familiar…

  3. Evn says:

    Is 7 9 1/2 Weeks?

  4. Roberta says:

    Or Basic Instinct?

  5. deblipp says:

    No one has 7 yet.

  6. Roberta says:

Yeah I didn’t think either of us had it.

  7. Melville says:

I’m going to go nuts from trying to remember #4. I’m sure I’ve seen it, I know the stars, even the director, but I can’t come up with THE TITLE! Argh! πŸ™ I’m tempted to call my sister (I know it’s one of her favorites), but I can’t find her work phone number.

I have semi-guesses on a few others, but I’ll wait for the West Coast people to wake up and check in.

  8. maurinsky says:

I know I’ve seen #7, but darned if I can remember anything else about it.

  9. deblipp says:

Melville, you or George are probably the only ones of my regulars with a shot at #4 (a movie I adore).

  10. Roberta says:

Is it that Judy Garland movie with the clock?

  11. Hazel says:

    Is #4 The Clock?

  12. Melville says:

Is it that Judy Garland movie with the clock?

That’s it! The title for #4 is The Clock!

  13. deblipp says:

I’m giving the tie to Roberta for getting the movie and Hazel for getting the title, and zero credit to Melville, who has achieved sufficient benefit in the form of the great relief of having that nagging feeling satisfied.

  14. Melville says:

Oops, Hazel got it first. But thanks, Roberta, that was driving me crazy. πŸ™‚

  15. Melville says:

I’m giving the tie to Roberta for getting the movie and Hazel for getting the title, and zero credit to Melville, who has achieved sufficient benefit in the form of the great relief of having that nagging feeling satisfied.

    LOL Quite correct.

  16. Roberta says:

That’s hilarious. I couldn’t sit through it… never got as far as the scene you described!

  17. Roberta says:

PS in fairness, I think Hazel posted before seeing my guess. Hazel don’t need no hints.

  18. Hazel says:

    I’m happy to share πŸ˜‰

  19. deblipp says:

It’s more or less a tie…three minutes. Often you don’t see the other post. Then Melville was three minutes after that.

  20. George says:

I did know The Clock, but, alas, my clock meant I got to the quiz too late. It’s a wonderful film, though, if for nothing else than to see Robert Walker could play sweet, since we mostly remember him for his compellingly unhinged Bruno in Strangers on a Train.

  21. Melville says:

Might as well try some educated guesses on the rest:

#5 – Penny Serenade? (I don’t remember the scene described, but I think Deb discussed the film here awhile ago)
#6 – Barefoot in the Park?
#7 – Mr. and Mrs. Smith?

Deb: I still have a comment (#15) stuck in moderation.

  22. deblipp says:

None of the guesses are right, but the comment is now unstuck.

I agree about Robert Walker, he was tender and centered and never killed anyone. I thought it was a luminous movie.

  23. Melville says:

Hmm, we’re not doing so well this week. What does that say about us that we can’t get the right answers on a sex quiz?

    πŸ™‚

  24. deblipp says:

I know, Mel, I had the same thought. Only #6 might be considered obscure.

  25. George says:

Either we see too many movies and have too little sex or vice versa.

Is #2 Four Weddings and a Funeral?

  26. Karen D says:

    #6 Better Than Chocolate

  27. Evn says:

Melville: What does that say about us that we can’t get the right answers on a sex quiz?

Welll, considering we can’t solve #7, it means we’ve never had a sexual encounter that involved pulling a knife on our partner in a threatening manner.

  28. Evn says:

You know, my #7 jokey-joke doesn’t seem anywhere near as funny this morning as it did last night. It would’ve worked better if I said we’ve never had a sexual encounter that involved slicing fruit.

  29. # 5 is “Somewhere in Time”!!!

(AND easilly one of the syrupy sweetest supernatural romances ever)

  30. deblipp says:

Don’t knock Somewhere in Time. It is my favorite romantic movie. I must’ve seen it thirty times!

  31. Typically these are solved by the time I get to read them. Was very happy to see that one is still an unsolved mystery. Unfortunately I am no closer then it seems anyone else is at guessing the answer…. DRAT!!!! πŸ™‚

  32. Evn says:

Hey, we haven’t had a Bond movie yet.

Hmmm. I vote #7 is Goldeneye.

  33. Roberta says:

I was just coming back to say the same thing except… Casino Royale?

  34. deblipp says:

Now Evn is going to randomly name Bond movies with his fingers crossed.

Go for it, Evn. One down, 21 to go!

  35. Evn says:

Die Another Day ? Casino Royale? The Passion of the 007?

  36. deblipp says:

I’m so not counting this as a guess.

  37. Evn says:

    Blast! [shakes fist impotently]

  38. George says:

How about just one guess–Die Another Day?
