Spread the Serenity Love

Via SAP and Shakespeare’s Sister, respectively, comes news of two Serenity-related events.

First, June 23 is Serenity Day–a day on which fans all over plan to buy Serenity to demonstrate to Universal the purchasing power of the Browncoats (the goal, of course, is to get them to greenlight a sequel). Own it already? No problem; donate it to charity, send it to the troops, use it to convert a friend, or whatever.

Meanwhile, there’s going to be a whole bunch of benefit screenings of Serenity, with the proceeds going to Equality Now (Joss Whedon’s favorite charity). It’s a lot of fun in a very good cause.

    I love Joss.

No point to this comment. Just…I love Joss.

Yup. Me too. And hey, that’s all the point a comment needs. 😉

Having spent the week watching all of Firefly and all of the commentary tracks ands starting to watch the entire run of for the second summer in a row all I have to say is……

I love Joss too. But I still wonder about Wonder Woman…. Whatupwitdat? Guess I’m just not a comics person……

Dammit – I’ve gotta stop using markup on this site – I always screw it up. Watching the entire run of BUFFY for the second summer in a row…….

  5. Amy says:

That’s how I wanted to spend my summer — watching Buffy straight through again. I’ve invested in all the DVDs and I never get a chance to watch them. Stupid working to reclaim Congress!

    “Stupid working to reclaim Congress!”

Somebody needs to focus on their priorities……. 😉

Good thing you’re the good Amy and not the evil Amy. 😉

Jody and I have been gradually re-watching all of Angel; we started with Season 4, finished Season 5 and are now just one episode away from the end of Season 1. We’ll do the Buffy project at some point in the future, but we got kind of Buffy’d out when they were showing the reruns on fX.

Nor am I. But hey, I was a little skeptical about the Space Western idea too. Who knows?

But the 4th season of Angel? That’s where you started?

I really think it should have opened with a horrible bus accident in which that kid was killed and Cordelia was comatized.

Would have saved us all a whole lot of pain.

It’s not as random as it sounds; I think we had been watching Season 3 in reruns, so when Jody got me the 5-season set for Christmas it made sense to keep going with Season 4. I don’t dislike it as much as you (and a lot of fans) do, but I don’t love it as much as Jody does. “Turgid supernatural soap opera” is certainly apropos (and probably lifted verbatim from comments at Television Without Pity), but it does have its moments. (I think the opening sequence of the season opener is just amazing. For example.)

Season 5, which a lot of people didn’t like, is one of my favorites–up there with Season 2.

Season 5 was probably the best season. The tragedy of Stupid Network Pencilpushing Geekhead Asshole Things. If they’d cancelled during season 4, would the fans have freaked? I think not. But how can you watch the Muppet episode, knowing the show has been cancelled, and not bleed from your ears a little? Okay, maybe that’s too dramatic.

My favorite season 4 comment was from the person who said he never trusted Zoe on Firefly because he knew her face was really made of maggots.

I am a comic person and I don’t get the Wonder Woman thing, but if Joss was making a documentary about Formica, I’d buy a ticket.
