This thankful thing can get old

I have a very dear friend, N., who evacuated safely from New Orleans. Of course, during Katrina, phoning a friend from New Orleans was impossible, so I just crossed my fingers until I heard.

N. decided he’d had enough of the South after that and moved back home to Massachusetts. Only to be there in the middle of the worst flooding the region has had in decades, prompting an email from me; “Love you to death, please don’t move to New York.”

So, you know where my friend lives? Danvers.

You know what? I’m tired of being thankful that N. is okay.

Haven’t heard from N…is it safe to assume he IS okay?

Our turkeys in the backyard are thanksful. they are stuffed, but with whole corn they stuff in their own bellies.

Had the enjoyment of watching them strike the classic “Thanksgiving Turkey” pose, puffed up & tails fanned out. 2 brothers circling around each other.

another thing about disasters following people…glad my sis doesn’t live over this way. She moves to Virgina…waits out, what the hell was -Hugo? That horrendous Hurricane years ago…
She moves to Mississippi. The dam breaks near where she lives. She wakes up to 5 inches of water in her bedroom. For some reason, fountains aren’t soothing anymore. She moves to Seattle. 3 days after that, an earthquake hits that makes things move like the sheets on your bed when you do that snapping motion….

I’ve got frequent-flyer miles at Catholic bookstores on account of the candles I’ve lit for N. and Co.

But he’s irreplaceable, so worth the worry.
