Whedonverse Trivia Open Thread (Continued)

Hey, we’ll keep this going as long as people are interested.

The current question (and it’s a good one) is from Amy: Name the order in which the contestants of Slayerfest were taken out of commission.

Okay…I’m not sure, but I’ll take a stab:

    1. Generic guy I don’t really remember that well (beartrap, killed by spiny looking guy);
    2. Spiny-looking guy (in the abandoned shack, blown to smithereens);
    3. Mr. & Mrs. Gooch (dusted, in the library);
    4. Hans und Franz* (shot each other through the classroom wall).

*Well, they’re Germans anyway. I don’t remember their real names.

  2. Anyone remember what happened to the old German guy in the van? I can’t recall if he got killed by Buffy, Trick or just scuttled off.

  3. Amy says:

Hm. Well, you got the order right, even if you got the names and one of the means wrong… But you got Hans’ name right, and the order is correct, which was all the question asked for. So it’s your turn!

  4. TehipiteTom says:

Okay, here we go: what actor has appeared as the greatest number of different characters in Whedon shows?

  5. Melville says:

I think it’s Camden Toy, who was Joss’s go-to guy for playing monsters. Those I know for sure are the Gnarl and the Ubervamp from BtVS Season 7, one of The Gentlemen from “Hush,” and one of the Nazi’s prisoners in the submarine flashback in “Why We Fight” from Angel Season 5 (“I was Rasputin’s lover!” LOL) There may have been more.

  6. TehipiteTom says:

You got it, Mel. I think those four are it; none of the trifecta actors played more than three characters (Jeff Ricketts played two different characters in Angel, but one was the character he played in Buffy).

    Your quesiton.

  7. Melville says:

Getting back to the trifecta actors, what did the three characters played by Jonathan Woodward have in common?

  8. Amy says:

    They all died?

  9. Melville says:

Nope, but you’re on the right track.

  10. Amy says:

They all symbolize some kind of betrayal?

  11. Melville says:

    No.

  12. Kathy says:

They came back from the dead?

  13. Melville says:

No. It is connected with death, though.

  14. Amy says:

They’re all killed by the good guys? Mal kills Tracey; Spike kills Holden (then Buffy dusts him); and Knox is killed by Wesley.

  15. Melville says:

Not the answer I was looking for, but true. If nobody gets mine by this evening, I’ll give my answer and give you the next question.

  16. Melville says:

Since I don’t want to have to keep coming back here to check (hey, it’s the weekend! :-)) here’s a give-it-away clue: It’s a death-associated object that all three have a connection to.

  17. A coffin/sarcophagus.

  18. Melville says:

    That’s it!

  19. Woo! I was thinking about a stake, then remembered that Wesley shot Knox, ruling THAT out, then drew a complete blank on the Firefly episode. Old age hasn’t completely set in yet!

  20. Amy says:

Ah, very nice. Good going, Randal. Your question!

  21. This is probably way too easy, but here goes. When Xander was chauffeur for Jack and his merry band of bullies, what did they say they wanted to do?

  22. Roberta says:

Bake a cake! I’m finally in!

Season 4: Why was Giles โ€˜inchingโ€™ from Buffy?

  23. After she drank the beer? Electric kool-aid funky Satan groove!

  24. Kathy says:

Normally I’d guess she was covered in some kind of demon goo, but that’s too general. Is it because he’s blind in “Something Blue”?

  25. Kathy says:

    No blind either?

  26. This isn’t a trick question is it? All I can think of is him backing away from Buffy when she was trapped in Faith’s body.

  27. Roberta says:

Randal, that’s it. He was inching ’cause he thought she was Faith…

  28. Roberta says:

Oops, that posted too fast. I meant to include the quote:

    Stop inching. You were inching.

    I hope this wasn’t a trick question… it wasn’t intended to be.

  29. Trick only in that it required us to think outside the box, change the paradigm and other corporate buzzwords and phrases. ๐Ÿ™‚

  30. Roberta says:

    Whooh hooh!

    Your deal, sir.

  31. Once upon a time, Giles was paid back. For what?

  32. Melville says:

It was a debt to a demon (“Enemies” Season 3). Giles introduced him to his wife. LOL I remember because I once stole the line for a fan-fic.

Question: Who was The Mayor’s favorite character in Little Women?

  33. Roberta says:

    Beth.

Fuck. Now I gotta come up with something. Unless I’m wrong?

  34. Melville says:

    You’re wrong. Not Beth.

  35. Roberta says:

Wheww. And yet, I was so sure…

  36. Melville says:

The Mayor does mention Beth, but only to say that that’s who most people would guess. That’s probably why you thought of her.

  37. Melville says:

    Nope.

  38. Melville says:

Yes, because “she’s such a proper young lady.”

  39. Kathy says:

Yep. That’s Faith, all right. ๐Ÿ™‚

In Blind Date, Angel asks Gunn to help him on a case, and Gunn asks for one reason why he should. What is the reason?

  40. Amy says:

Angel actually gives two reasons. The first doesn’t impress Gunn; the second is that it will be dangerous, which sells it.

  41. Kathy says:

That’s the one I was looking for.

  42. Amy says:

Okay. Here’s an easy one: What is Angel’s tattoo of? (Include all aspects for full credit!)

  43. Amy says:

My question is hung up in moderation…

  44. TehipiteTom says:

    Sorry, Amy–it’s there now.

  45. maurinsky says:

A Celtic bird of some sort, I think.

  46. deblipp says:

Maurinsky is right. Here is a picture.
