The radio news kind of makes it up to me

While I was out getting a sandwich, I heard the best news I’ve heard in ages. The California Supreme Court has overturned the ban on gay marriage as unconstitutional. I’m choking up just typing this.

Look, this is a turned tide. Just is. The bans on same sex marriage in other states are the thrashings of a dying dinosaur. This is how it is going to go. There will be setbacks. There will even be violence (like there hasn’t already?), but this is a done deal. In my lifetime, marriage equality will be the law of the land.

Okay, now I am choking up.

Clearly I should move to, I don’t know, Mississippi or somewhere, since everywhere I live these days I seem to leave gay marriage in my wake

As thrilled as I am — and I am deeply thrilled that the supreme court of such a large state decided bigotry is bad — now we’ve gotta keep the crazies from getting it into the state’s constitution. And California’s procedure for doing that is kinda wacky, so I’m not sure how this will play out. I need to find some on-the-ground analysis.

Yeah, it could get weird and ugly in CA, but again, this is a BIG FLASHING SIGN that the end for that kind of bigotry is near.

I’ve always said that one of these days, this brick wall we keep slamming our heads against will give way to a better world. 🙂
